🏀 NBA 2K27 · the Rec · the build lab
What should I build?
Say where you play first. A build that wins organised 5v5 is not the one that wins a Theater run, and neither is what you should buy while you are still learning in Casual Corner. Every suggestion says why it was picked, what it costs, and the animations to chase.
Rec The Rec · five rotating environments · 5v5
5v5 with whoever queues. 2K27 rotates the venue every game — High School Gym, Outdoor Court, Private Gym, Crowded Arena and a Season venue — and you get the position the lobby gives you.
What wins here
→ Self-sufficiency. Nobody is running a play for you, so a build that needs a setup man is a build that gets 4 points.
→ Free-throw and catch-and-shoot ability, because most of your looks arrive without you creating them.
→ Defence that does not need help — you cannot rely on a stranger rotating behind you.
→ Rebounding, because in Rec nobody boxes out.
Watch out
Randoms will not pass to a man with no shot. Being able to punish a closeout is what makes the second pass come.
Tell it about you three answers, or none — it has a view either way
1. The 3-and-D wing
SG · 6'5–6'7 · 205–215 lb · wingspan +4 to +6 in · model: Mikal Bridges / OG Anunoby
Built for Rec
The most PLAYABLE build in the game and the one every crew is short of. You are never the problem: you space the floor for the primary and you take the hardest defensive assignment.
What it gives up: Creation. If your crew has no primary, you will look ordinary.
The attributes that matter
Three-Point ShotThe whole job. 92 is where the shot stops caring about a closeout.
92
Mid-Range ShotEnough to punish a run-off.
80
Perimeter DefenseYou guard their best perimeter player. Nobody else on your crew wants to.
88
StealPassing lanes are where this build turns defence into offence.
83
Ball HandleOne dribble into a shot. That is all you need.
78
Pass AccuracySwing it. Do not create.
70
StrengthSo a wing cannot back you into the paint.

2. The Primary — tall two-way creator
PG · 6'4–6'6 · 195–205 lb · wingspan +2 to +4 in · model: SGA / Jalen Brunson with size
Built for Rec
The most valuable man in an organised 5v5 is the one who creates a shot, makes the right first pass, and does not become a target on defence. This build is all three at once, which is why it is the build every serious crew wants and almost nobody builds properly.
What it gives up: Finishing. You are not dunking on a big — get to the floater and live there.
The attributes that matter
Three-Point ShotAbove the 85 green-window step and near the 92 that survives a contest — a primary who can be gone under is not one.
91
Ball HandleEnough to beat a switch without needing a screen.
88
Speed With BallUnlocks SGA's dribble style; 85 gets Coby White.
84
Pass AccuracyThe first pass out of two on the ball is what makes a 5v5 offence, and it is what Dimer needs to matter.
85
Perimeter DefenseYou will be switched onto their guard every time down. This is the number that keeps you on the floor.
85
StealCutoff defence rewards position, but a live-ball turnover is still the cheapest bucket in the game.
80
Free ThrowPro-Am games are close and late. Nothing else about the build matters at the line.

3. The anchor — rebounding rim protector
C · 7'0–7'2 · 265–285 lb · wingspan +6 to +8 in · model: Rudy Gobert
Built for Rec
The Rec gives you four strangers who will not rotate, will not box out and will not get back. This build turns all three of those into your rebounds and your blocks.
What it gives up: Everything outside the paint. In a 3v3 mode you are a liability.
The attributes that matter
Defensive ReboundIn the Rec nobody boxes out. Every miss is a possession you can simply take.
94

The numbers people build around each one says where it came from
78
Three-Point Shot2K27The floor for a shot the Rec, Park and Theater respect — under this, defenders leave you and your team stops passing.
85
Three-Point / Mid-Range2K27The green window widens noticeably (roughly 48–55 ms of timing against 40–48 at 80).
92
Three-Point / Mid-Range2K27Pro 2 fadeaway, and the top of the forgiveness curve — the shot survives a hand in the face.
87
Mid-Range Shot2K27A mid-range that holds up in the shorter modes, where a pull-up is often the only clean look.
55
Block2K27Improved contest targeting and jump mechanics — the minimum before a contest is a contest.

Contact dunks
Elite contact dunks 2K26 — not yet re-published for 2K27
96 Driving Dunk · 82 Vertical — Wings and fours who live above the rim.
Pro contact dunks 2K26 — not yet re-published for 2K27
87 Driving Dunk · 75 Vertical — The affordable one. Most slashing builds stop here.
Small contact dunks 2K26 — not yet re-published for 2K27
86 Driving Dunk · 75 Vertical · under 6'5 — Guards who want the poster.
Jumpshots
Max release speed on every one of them, and turn the release cue on. A shot you can see is a shot you can repeat.
What changed in 2K27
→ The right-stick steal is gone. Defence is a cutoff system now, so on-ball defence is about position and body, not a stab at the ball.
→ Height is dominant in a shot contest — it outweighs the perimeter defence rating. A 6'3 lockdown still gets shot over by a 6'8 wing.
→ Post steals are far less sensitive in 5v5 Pro-Am than elsewhere, so a big who wants the ball on the block is safer there than in a 3v3.
→ Every MyPLAYER in the co-ed City is built on the same framework — there is no hidden advantage in the character you pick.
