THE READ

Bengals win the turnover battle and the game

Cincinnati beat Baltimore 45-39 in a high-scoring affair decided by turnover discipline. Lamar Jackson put on a showcase with 420 yards and 5 touchdowns, and Ja'Kobi Lane caught 6 passes for 173 yards and 3 scores, but Baltimore's 4 giveaways to Cincinnati's 1 proved too much to overcome. Joe Burrow threw 4 touchdowns on efficient 8 of 15 passing, and the Bengals' ground game added 84 yards to support the aerial assault. Both teams now sit at 1-2.

THE WIDER PICTURE

Team	SRS	SOS	MARGIN	TO +/-
Bengals	-8.1	+2.2	-10.3	-1
Ravens	+12.1	-0.2	+12.3	+1

SRS is how many points a side beats an average team by once you account for who they played — beat a good team by 3 and it counts for more than beating a bad one by 20. SOS is how hard that schedule has been. Full table.

IN THE BOOTH

Nicole Santos Beat reporter

Baltimore gave this one away. Lamar Jackson threw 5 touchdown passes and 420 yards, and Ja'Kobi Lane caught 3 of them, but 4 turnovers against Cincinnati's 1 decided it—you cannot gift a team 45 points and stay in it.

Kayla James The showman · replying

Cincinnati won a shootout where Baltimore brought the better individual performances—Lamar's 420 yards and 5 touchdowns should have been enough to steal this—but the Ravens couldn't stop giving the ball back, and you simply cannot out-talent your own mistakes.

They only ever read the box score and this league's own numbers — none of them has a source, and none of them can report anything that did not happen.
